(MITCHELL) - A Mitchell man was arrested after he refused to stop for a Mitchell Police officer early this morning.

According to Mitchell Police, 27-year-old Jayce Hughes, of 1516 Rabbitsville Rd., was traveling on Ind. 37 and that is when a Mitchell police officer attempted to stop Hughes for a traffic violation.

Hughes refused to stop his vehicle and police continued to follow Hughes who continued to travel north on Ind. 37 passing local resturants. That is when the officer requested backup because Hughes began to pick up speed and still refused to pull over.

While officers were arrested Hughes he became combative and complained of neck pain because officers had placed Hughes in handcuffs with his arms behind his back. He told officer that was causing him neck pain and he needed treatment.

Officers took Hughes to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital where he was treated and then taken to jail.
