(NASHVILLE) - A man found dead along railroad tracks in western Brown County Thursday likely died of heat stroke.
Brown County Chief Deputy Coroner Earl Piper, believes 29-year-old Douglas Haines died of heat stroke about two hours before his body was discovered.
According to Piper outside temperatures were 92 degrees with a heat index of 97 degrees. The national Weather Service had issued a heat warning for that day. Piper says Haines' core body temperature had reached 109 degrees.
Piper is waiting on a toxicology report before ruling on the official cause of death. He expects to have those results in about two weeks.
A passing motorist found Haines, near Indian Hill Road off State Road 45 just before 4 p.m. Thursday lying shirtless on the rocks next to the railroad ties.
Brown County Sheriff's Department Det. Scott Southerland says officers do not suspect foul play. Southerland says Haines was homeless and was often seen walking the roads of Brown County.
