Man Caught Breaking Into Vehicle At Salt Creek Boat Ramp

Last updated on Monday, July 15, 2013

(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana Conservation officers arrested 54-year-old Timothy Joe Romine, of Brazil, Sunday when he was caught in the act of breaking into a vehicle at the Salt Creek boat ramp parking lot at Monroe Reservoir.

Lt. Tim Beaver says that recent reported thefts from this parking area prompted conservation officers to conduct a surveillance operation.

Two concealed officers were watching the area for suspicious vehicles and people when they saw Romine, who had a BB gun pistol, shoot the side window out of a vehicle and grab a purse.

Romine was immediately arrested.

Officers determined that Romine was responsible for at least six prior thefts from vehicles. Stolen items recovered from his vehicle included a computer, credit cards, and a wedding ring.

Romine was booked into the Monroe County Jail on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.

Conservation officers want to encourage all visitors of the many DNR properties to take the appropriate steps to avoid becoming a victim of this type of crime.

If you leave your vehicle unattended, even for just a few minutes, remove all valuable items from plain view. Officers ask that motorists store these items in the trunk or another secure location.

The most common items sought by thieves are cell phones, computers, wallets and purses, credit cards, check books, cash, GPS units, and other electronic devices.
