(BLOOMFIELD) - Sean Douglas Neal, 25, Linton, has been in trouble with the law several times and now he’s in legal trouble again - for a jail fight.
The Greene County Daily World reports, Neal is accused of hitting another inmate in the face with a closed fist to begin a physical altercation on June 28. Jail officers monitoring Cell Block C on a video camera system saw that a fight was in progress and responded.
Greene County Sheriff's Det. James O'Malley investigated the incident and reported the inmate who took the blow said he was sitting at a table getting ready to eat his lunch when Neal told him he was sitting in his seat and told him to move. The inmate said he told Neal there were other seats and Neal then punched him. The inmate said he fought back in an attempt to defend himself.
O'Malley reported that Neal said he was half-asleep when the fight occurred and he didn't know how the altercation started.
Video provided validation to the story told by the inmate who was struck. It showed that words were exchanged between the two men then Neal hit the other inmate.
Neal fell to the floor during the fight and was injured at some point. He suffered a fractured ankle and had to be transported to Greene County General Hospital for treatment.
Neal was first arrested in August 2007 after Shakamak school buses were broken into and numerous items stolen includingfire extinguishers, first aid kits and radios. Most of the items were recovered from various places -- one item had been thrown off a bridge on a county road and other items were found by a diver in a lake in Sullivan County.
Neal was out on bond when he was arrested again in October 2007 in connection with the burglary of the Bibleway Church in Linton. A door was pried open, an ice pick stuck in a wall and various items were missing including an antique saxophone. A shop the church operated in another location was also burglarized.
After those incidents, Neal was charged with five felonies and amisdemeanor for breaking and entering a church, burglary, theft and two counts of possession of a quantity of marijuana.
In 2008, Neal was sentenced to 10 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections (DOC) with five years suspended and given credit for 264 days already served at the time of sentencing. Later when he was charged in another criminal case, a petition to revoke his suspended sentence was filed and now he's due back in court again in this case in late July.
In April 2011, Neal was arrested and charged with felony strangulation and battery resulting in bodily injury following a violent domestic dispute in Jasonville.
In July 2012, Neal was arrested and charged with two counts of felony intimidation to law enforcement officers and one count of disorderly conduct. In a separate case, also in July, Neal was charged with possession of a destructive device -- a class C felony. Police reported finding a device they described as a "homemade grenade" at Neal's residence, along with materials to make other explosive devices, and an ISP EOD team was called in to disassemble the device.
No arrest warrant was issued in the newest case against Neal since he's already in jail.
Neal was charged July 23 with battery, a class B misdemeanor, in connection with the jail fight.
