(LINTON) - The preliminary cost of damage from the flash flooding over the weekend in Linton is estimated to be more than $400,000.
Greene County Emergency Management Agency Director Roger Axe says that damage is not covered by insurance. Axe, Linton Mayor John Wilkes and Jerry Sears from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security visited several homes this week to survey damage.
Axe has worked around the clock to put together a proposal for a local residents to be eligible for a Small Business Administration (SBA) Loan. According to the SBA the Disaster Loans are low-interest, long term loans available for those in a declared disaster stricken areas. Axe stressed the loan opportunities are not guaranteed but he continues to work with Mayor Wilkes to get the help residents need.
Anyone who suffered damages from the flood should still call 2-1-1 to report issues. The information will be used to calculate the amount of damage in the area.
Axe also noted people should be cautious of any contact with contaminates, like backed up sewage. If they have come in contact with the contaminates, contact their physician.
