Last updated on Thursday, July 4, 2013

(BEDFORD) - So far, more than 120 entries are registered to move through downtown Bedford Thursday at noon for the Limestone Heritage Festival Parade.

Military veterans are still welcome to sign up to ride on the Lawrence County veterans float. Veterans can go to the American Legion's parking lot at 10:30 a.m. Then, a TASC bus will leave the parking lot at 11 a.m. to go to Stokes and Housel (formerly Monroe Shine) on 15th Street, according to Lisa Grissom, co-chair of the Limestone Heritage Festival Parade Committee.

Veterans are also welcome to go to Stokes and Housel instead of first meeting at the Legion's parking lot.

To register, call the Chamber of Commerce at 275-4493 or City Hall at 279-6555. The Rotary Club of Bedford and Good Sports will lay flags on each seat of the bus for veterans to wave as they ride through crowds.

These clubs will also hand out flags along the streets for people attending, Grissom said.

The grand marshal of the parade is the Bedford North Lawrence High School state championship basketball team. A ceremony will mark the beginning of the festival around 11 a.m. at Courthouse Square. Streets will be closed off at that time. On the square, a call to colors will take place with JoAnna Cobb sing the national anthem. The girls basketball team will receive the key to the city and plaques.

The parade starts at noon at at 15th and M streets continuing down 16th Street, go around the square, down Lincoln Avenue and end on 13th Street. GM Bedford Casting is the parade's sponsor.

After the parade, from 1:30-4:30 p.m., the Limestone Heritage Festival old fashioned ice cream social will be at the Thornton Park Pavilion with The Residue performing.

Then a Lawrence County community band concert will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Before the fireworks at Parkview track at 10:15 p.m., a concert by Sheila Stephen and the Rodeo Monkeys will take place at 7:30 p.m.
