(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce and WorkOne will co-host a Veterans Job Fair Thursday, July 18 from 9-11 a.m. at the Lawrence County 4-H Fairgrounds Expo Hall.

Booths are free for vendors and there is no admission charge for veterans.

Also on the third Thursday of each month Terry Sanders will sit down with local disabled veterans at Mr. Gattis to share pizza and discuss benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense.

Sanders serves as commander of the Bedford Chapter of Indiana's Department of Veterans Affairs. As second junior vice commander of the state operation, he is in line to reign as commander in four years.

The DAV was founded in 1920 by disabled soldiers returning home from World War I. In 1932, the DAV was designated as the official voice of wartime disabled veterans.

Each year the DAV represents more than 200,000 veterans and their dependents with claims for benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense.

Sanders says the most important thing they do is help veterans file disability claims with the VA's national service officer. They begin at the local level and then get veterans in touch with officials in Indianapolis.

After retiring from the Navy, Sanders began assisting the DAV near his home in Pensacola.

He said anyone wishing to donate to the DAV can access its online site Veterans can contact him at 278-9004.
