(BROWNSTOWN) - A recent inspection of the Jackson County Jail showed 75 more inmates than the 172-bed facility is designed to hold.
That sets up the potential for a lawsuit, state jail inspector Kenny Whipker told county commissioners during their meeting Tuesday at the courthouse annex.
"I'm here to discuss some options and alternatives," said Whipker, whose most recent inspection was June 11.
The jail housed 234 inmates at the time of the photo, more than was designed to be housed. Over crowding has become an issue at the jail and unless action is taken, the federal government could stepin.
