Greene County Fair Kicks Off Friday, Some Activities This Week

Last updated on Monday, July 8, 2013

(SWITZ CITY) - While the official start of the 2013 Greene County Fair won’t be until Friday evening, there are several fair events that will take place.

The Greene County Daily World reports, on Tuesday at 6 p.m. the 4-H Cat Show will take the stage in the community building.

Wednesday, the private fashion revue judging will take place for grades 8-12, starting at 8:30 a.m. followed with private judging at 9 a.m. for grades 3-7.

At 7 p.m. Tuesday evening the public fashion revue program will be presented in the community building.
That's a change from past years, when the public revue was traditionally held on Thursday nights, according to Malea Huffman, Extension Service Educator in charge of the 4-H program.

Another change this year will be exhibit project check-in will be conducted on Friday evening, instead of on Saturday mornings.

Huffman said the change is hoped to alleviate some of the pressure off of the 4-H exhibitors who also show livestock and would have had to also checked in their animals while trying to have their projects judged.

"It will relieve some congestion," Huffman said. "I think it will help with traffic (in and out of the fairgrounds). It will help the stress levels and should help us with volunteers because they don't have to be setting up in the barn."

The Open Class Fair project check-in will remain on Saturday, July 13 from 9 a.m. until noon.

The fair runs until July 20 at the fairgrounds located on State Road 54, about one mile east of Switz City.
