(BLOOMINGTON) - A glitch has delayed the start of Bloomington's new parking meter system by a week or more in the college town's downtown area.
Bloomington's newly installed "smart" meters were scheduled to accept their first coin and credit card payments Monday.
But Public Works Director Susie Johnson tells The Herald-Times that a glitch occurred with the credit card operation of the meters.
She says the parking meter vendor has not been receiving the correct convenience fee amounts during tests of the meters along one city street intended to work out any bugs in the system.
The city council approved the paid parking system in mid-March. Officials had said they expect the entire metering system to be fully operational by the second week of August.
