(UNDATED) - According to Indiana State Excise police, 5,339 packages of synthetic drug substances were seized from 10 stores in southern Indiana last week and now three people are facing charges.
The Leader Democrat reports, one of those stores was Smokey's Tobacco Outlet in Salem where 315 packages were seized.
Owners 57-year-old Sheree Banet, of Lanesville, and 48-year-old Matthew Kaiser, of New Albany, were both charged with possession of a synthetic drug lookalike substance and possession with intent to deliver a synthetic drug lookalike substance after officers took 2,123 packages from their stores.
JC's Cigarette Outlet owner 63-year-old Gerald Stith, of Shepherdsville, Ky., was charged with possession of a synthetic drug lookalike substance and possession with intent to deliver a synthetic drug lookalike substance.
Of those 2,123 packages, 375 were seized from Smokey's Tobacco Outlet in Corydon, 408 packages in New Salisbury, 365 in Jeffersonville, 289 in New Albany, 315 in Salem and 371 in Sellersburg.
Excise officers were assisted by prosecutors in Floyd, Clark, Washington and Perry counties.
Anyone with information on stores with synthetic drugs or lookalike substances can provide an anonymous tip to the State Excise Police at 812-523-8314.
