(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington police say a 9-year-old black Labrador retriever died after it was left in a car with all the windows up for more than two hours Monday afternoon.

According to Sgt. Joe Crider, the dog's owner told police he thought the dog would be fine. He told police he didn't leave the windows down because he thought it would rain.

Two women called police at 4:12 p.m. after they found the dog in a black Honda Accord parked at West Sixth and North Morton streets. The women told police the dog was in distress and they were concerned.

When police arrived the dog was having a seizure. The dog was taken for treatment but later died.

Crider says officer have filed charges and the case is being reviewed by the prosecutor.
