Couple Facing Charges In Four Counties Following Joyride In Stolen Hummer

Last updated on Saturday, July 20, 2013

(UNDATED) - A couple who had only been married 11 days are accused of going on a joyride through several counties in a stolen Hummer, stealing gas and big ticket items from a Walmart store along the way.

Anna Rochelle, of the Greene County Daily World reports, Douglas Ray Raley, Jr. and Brittany Marie (Ridge) Raley spent day 12 of their marriage in the Daviess County Jail and it's likely they'll be spending quite a few more behind bars -- criminal charges are being filed against them in four counties.

In addition to their cases filed in Greene County, the Raleys are in trouble in Knox, Dubois and Daviess County.

The black Hummer had been reported stolen out of Vincennes when a local law enforcement officer received a dispatch at 8:52 a.m. on June 29 that the two suspects had just stolen some items from Walmart in Linton and fled the scene.

Indiana State Police Senior Trooper Eric Nash was on patrol in the area.

A minute after the dispatch, Trooper Nash was northbound on County Road 1100W, a rural location behind, or south of, the store, when he stopped at the intersection of CR 200S and came face to face with the two suspects in the stolen Hummer - it was traveling southbound on CR 1100W and also stopped at the intersection.

The Hummer passed by him and he turned around. When he caught up to the vehicle and was about to activate emergency lights to make a stop, he saw an oncoming individual he recognized, Dr. Gordan Green, DDS, riding his bicycle so Nash waited until the Hummer and patrol vehicle had passed by the rider.

Nash then activated the lights but shortly after, the Hummer entered standing water on the road -- the Hummer continued on but the trooper did not follow it into the water. That was the last time Nash saw the vehicle that morning.

Later in the afternoon, four ISP troopers, including Troopers Nash, John Trotter, Keven Brown and Gavin Wilson, were in Daviess County looking for the Hummer and they found it off Old Vincennes Road near a levee. They found the Raleys nearby.

In interviews with the Raleys, they allegedly admitted the keys to the Hummer were given to them by another individual, they unlocked it and took off, and went looking for gas to steal. They're accused of a drive-off theft of fuel from a Shell station in Vincennes.

According to a probable cause affidavit prepared by Trooper Nash, the two smoked crystal meth on the way to Linton.

They allegedly stole numerous items from the Linton Walmart including: An HP Pavilion Touch Smart all-in-one computer, acomputer stand, a 32-inch Samsung LED-TV, a Sony car stereo, pink and blue beach towels and an Ozark Trail four-person tent. The value of the items totaled approximately $1,200.

They are also accused of stealing other items from Walmart stores in Jasper and Washington and returning those items for cash or gift cards at different stores.

The Raleys were arrested and taken to the Daviess County Jail.

After the cases were filed in Greene County, warrants were issued for the arrest of both. Court records indicate they were both living in Vincennes.

The preliminary charge against Brittany Raley is theft -- a Class D felony.

The preliminary charges against Douglas Raley include theft -- a Class D felony, resisting law enforcement -- a Class D felony, and driving while suspended with a prior conviction within 10 years -- a Class A misdemeanor.

They will be facing charges in connection for the theft of the Hummer in another county.
