(UNDATED) - With the beginning of school fast approaching, area parents are again facing the high cost of clothing their children for school.

To help the residents of Washington, Clark, Floyd, and Scott counties with part of the cost, The Salvation Army will be giving away clothing at The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Clarksville.

The give-away will be held on Wednesday, July 24, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The give-away, now in its 23rd year, is a program undertaken by the local Corps of The Salvation Army in an effort to overcome the high cost of sending children back to school.

Any child or adult residing in Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Scott and Washington counties, who is enrolled in school, is eligible to participate and receive eight articles of clothing without cost. Participants only need to bring verification of school enrollment, or birth certificate, and proof of address.

The Back to School Give-Away Program has met a tremendous need in our area. Last year 1,176 students were helped with clothing and 400 students received school supplies.

Persons desiring to donate merchandise should bring items to either the Thrift Store at either 2002 Grant Line Rd., New Albany, 528 Little League Blvd., Clarksville, or 101 Hwy. 62 W., Corydon.

The Thrift Stores operated by the Salvation Army are supported totally from donations of merchandise from the community.

The donated merchandise is sold during normal store hours, and the proceeds realized are used to support the Army's community service.

In addition to selling merchandise, the Army uses the Thrift Store as a source for supplying clothing and household goods without cost to families in need.
