2013 Limestone Heritage Festival Winners

(BEDFORD) - Crowds lined the streets Thursday afternoon despite cloudy skies to view the more than 120 Limestone Heritage Festival Parade entries.

This year's theme was Heroes of Lawrence County.

The call of colors was given by parade committee member Roger Gales with a flag raising and the national anthem son by JoAnna Kai Cobb.

The Grand Marshals were the 2013 Bedford North Lawrence Lady Stars and their coaches and trainer and managers. They were given a key to the city by Mayor Shawna Girgis and a large eagle mounted on a limestone base.

The winning entries were:

Commercial Floats

Mayor's Choice: Smoking Jim's BBQ with their BBQ train.

Award of Excellence: Bedford Federal Savings Bank with Mike Spreen driving a 6030 John Deere tractor with Lloyd Wood singing.

Commitee's Choice: Krazy-K-Tutu's float.

Non-Commercial Floats

Best Theme: Bedford's Lions Club with their "We Serve" Float with patriotic music.

Most Festive: Lawrence County Fair Queen and her court.

Most Creative: Cub Scouts Pack 343 Springville.

Antique Cars

Mayor's Choice: Sproles Automotive & Machine Shop with a 1931 Ford Convertible.

People's Choice: Jack M. Dixon with his 1926 T Bucket

Antique Tractors

Mayor's Choice: Justin Hillenburg with his 1937 F-12 Farmall Tractor.

People's Choice: Toby Fields with his 1935 John Deere Tractor and wagon.

Equestrian Mounted

Mayor's Choice: Rachel Mathis riding a gray mare

People's Choice: Miranda Grubb riding a paint mare.

Equestrian Wagon/Buggy

Mayor's Choice: South Leatherwood Carriage, wagon pulled by 5-year-old Belgian mares Ribbon and Roz.

Musical

Mayor's Choice: Andrew Hartman's Funtime Band, with a salute to hometown hero Andrew Hartman

People's Choice: BNL High School Marching Band with director Jim Jones.

Judges' Special Choice

Veterans float - "Thank You To Our Veterans" pulled by Root's Rv and Sales Inc.

The parade committee gave out 25 youth participation ribbons, 20 antique car dash plaques and 10 antique tractor plaques.
