Last updated on Monday, July 15, 2013

(ELLETTSVILLE) - An Indiana Conservation Officer Ryan Jahn rescued an English Blue Tick hunting dog from a twenty-five foot deep crevice near Red Hill Road in Ellettsville early Sunday morning.

According to Indiana Conservation Officer Ryan Jahn, the hunting dog was participating in a field trail competition when it followed a raccoon into a crevice that was twenty-five feet deep and less than two feet wide.

The blue tick was wedged in the crevice and unable to move to free itself.

Officer Jahn was lowered into the crevice with a rope attached to his safety harness. Once he reached the dog, he was able to free the dog and bring it back to the surface.

The English Blue Tick is owned by Steve Bennett from the Columbus area.

Officer Ryan Jahn is a member of Indiana Conservation Officers Cave Rescue Team. The team responds to vertical rescues and confined space incidents both above and below ground throughout the state.
