Washington Woman Arrested After Claiming She Was Raped

(WASHINGTON) - A Washington woman told police she was raped in an attempt to avoid an operating a vehicle while intoxicated charge last week.

According to Washington Police officers they received a call reporting they had found a woman walking on State Road 57 near County Road 500 North around 1:15 a.m. and brought her to the Daviess County Community Hospital.

Officers says, 25-year-old Whitney Abbott, of Washington, told police she had been raped and was informed that her 1999 Buick Regal went off the side of the road on Ind. 57 and she had crashed into a tree near County Road 400 North.

Deputies went to the area and found the car, her purse on the floor board.

Police went to the hospital and questioned Abbott. Abbott admitted she lied about the rape because she didn't want to get arrested for drinking and driving. According to a blood alcohol test she .19 and also positive for meth, marijuana and a legend drug.

Abbott was arrested and taken to jail.
