Jackson County BucCornEar Festival Kicks Off Sept. 20

(HELMSBURG) - Jackson Township Fire Department invites you to the Annual BucCornEar Festival be held this year in Helmsburg, Indiana on the third weekend in September, Friday September 20 and Saturday, September 21.

Celebrating pirates, popcorn and fire prevention, this two day is a family event for all ages. Events include a parade, car show, bicycle tour, motorcycle scavenger ride, pirate contests, corn husking, sea shanty challenge, vendors, carnival games and musical entertainment.

Featured guests are the Pirates and Buccaneers of the Resurrection a group of historical fiction pirates based in the upper Midwestern states utilizing historical realism dated from 1660 to 1770 and mixed with pirate lore, sea myths, Hollywood legend and novel fiction. You will spot the Crew in an encampment in the Pirate Cove Village roasting meat and attempting to sell goods from their most recent prize. Perhaps some in the crew will even convert you into becoming a pirate
with their crew!

The two days include a full line up of music, vendors, carnival games, fire prevention scenarios and more. Contests will include the "Bucket Brigade", "The Gauntlet", "The BowLine", Popcorn Eating and Shucking Challenge. Gather your own "pirate crew" and enter the Sea Shanty

Contest - judging will be based on originality of crew name, sea shanty and pirate costume. Also available throughout the festival will be Smokey Bear, members of the Jackson Township

Fire Crew, and special surprise guests. Entertainment includes music by Amanda Webb and Triton's Daughter.

Admission to the event is a $5 donation per family!!! The JTFD is a totally volunteer organization. Money raised from this event will help the department with training, equipment and other needed items to assist in the operation of the organization.
