Man Sets Fire, Grabs Beer And Walks Into Woods

Last updated on Thursday, June 20, 2013

(EASTERN HEIGHTS) - A Greene County man is accused of setting his home on fire and walking away with a case of beer.

50-year-old Dwane McCloud is charged with arson after he set his mobile home in the 1700 block of North Lawrence Hollow Road in Eastern Heights on fire June 1.

According to a probable cause affidavit, before firefighters arrived, McCloud's wife entered the trailer three times looking for her husband and suffered burns on her head during the searches.

When Center Township firefighters arrived they too searched for McCloud. After the fire was put out, firefighters requested the state fire marshal to investigate the cause of the blaze.

The investigator determined that several small fires were set inside the home. McCloud told police he had been in an argument with his wife and got mad and told her he was going to burn down their home.

He told investigators he sat a chair on fire in the living room, but then changed his mind and removed it from the home. He then went into a bedroom and set a blanket on fire and then set the rest of the home on fire.

After setting the fires, McCloud told investigators he left the home and went into the woods with a case of beer and didn't go back to the trailer until after firefighters left.

McCloud was later arrested and taken to the Greene County Jail where he posted bond and was released.

McCloud did appear in court and was formerly charged with arson and appointed a public defender.
