Man Arrested After Stealing Items He Says He Needed To Find A Job

Last updated on Friday, June 21, 2013

(JASONVILLE) - A 28-year-old Jasonville man was arrested after he allegedly told police he was taking items he might need to a job.

Jeston Gregory was arrested by Bloomfield Town Marshal Ken Tharp last week after Tharp was dispatched to the CVS store in the South Plaza.

A store employee told the officer that Gregory had picked up a pay-as-you-go cell phone, cut it out of the packaging, discarded the packaging, placed the phone in his pocket and left the store without paying for it.

Gregory then went to the Dollar General Store and stole a package of t-shirts and hid them under his shirt when he saw police.

Gregory was arrested. Police found flavored drink mixes, snacks, scissors, a paring knife and lighter. He told police he needed the knife and scissors to open packages of items he was stealing. He told police he needed the phone so he could find a job, the t-shirt to wear and the drink mixes if he got a job and he took the snacks because he was hungry.

Gregory was charged in Greene Circuit Court with one count of theft and one count of attempted theft.
