(BLOOMINGTON) - The friend charged in connection to an Anderson man's drowning in Lake Monroe last year plead guilty Friday to criminal recklessness - inflicting serious bodily injury.

Dillon Barrett was sentenced to 365 days in county jail. He received two days jail credit the rest of the sentence was suspended. He will be on probation for 360 days.

Barrett was originally charged with reckless homicide.

Last Memorial Day weekend, Barrett and 29-year-old Matthew Hosier got into a fight. Barrett put Hosier in a choke hold and both went into the water at Fourwinds Boat Rental. When Barrett released Hosier, he went under the water and never resurfaced.

Hosier was pulled from the water by emergency crews and taken to IU Health Hospital Bloomington, where he was pronounced dead.

The Monroe County coroner ruled the death a homicide.

Dillion and two others were arrested following the incident. Hosier's family says the death was an accident and doesn't believe he should face any charges because they were just horse playing.
