Loogootee School Corp. Looking For Teachers

Last updated on Saturday, June 1, 2013

(LOOGOOTEE) - The Loogootee School Corporation is loosing a combined 158 years of teaching experience, after the school board reluctantly accepted the retirements of five teachers this week.

Hardest hit was the music program. Janice Arnett, a teacher for 41 years, who taught junior and senior high music, and Lawana Hand, an elementary music teacher, who taught for 36 years are both retiring.

Also retiring: Rita Divine, an elementary teacher for 39 years; Karen Slaven, an elementary teacher for 36 years; and Paula Ringwald, a special education teacher at Loogootee for six years.

The school board also approved the promotion of two younger teachers to administrative positions. Lacey Wade will fill a new position as middle school principal, while Mike Wininger will be athletic director.

Superintendent Larry Weitkamp says the retirements and promotions had opened up several teaching positions, which he posted on the corporation's web site, as well as in professional teaching journals.
