(BLOOMINGTON) - The IU Board of Trustees voted on the university’s budget and approved several update to campus facilities.
The next board meeting will be held August 8-9 at IU-Purdue University Indianapolis. That meeting will be the first for new trustees Randall Tobias, James T. Morris and student trustee Janice Farlow who were recently appointed to the board by Gov. Mike Pence. They will replace trustees Bruce Cole, Bill Strong and student representative Cora Griffin.
The trustees approved a $3.1 billion dollar budget for fiscal year 2013 -2014.
The board approved an estimated $21 million renovation project at Franklin Hall as part of the merger of journalism, telecommunications and communication and culture unit that will be housed in the building. The upgrades include the removal of asbestos and lead paint, roof upgrades, classroom, entryway and restroom updates so the building will be ADA compliant.
The old card catalog area in the East Tower of Herman B.Wells Library will be converted into a research area for graduate students and faculty and they will install fire sprinklers to part of the area . It will cost an estimated $1.4 million.
A $29 million dollar project at Kelley School of Business will be paid for with grant money and gifts. The renovation will include the renovation of the Hodge Hall where the aging mechanical systems will be replaced and the classrooms updated.
The trustees approved the IU campus to offer a Bachelor of Science degree in animal behavior, in international studies and in Central Eurasian studies on the IU campus.
They also approved the 2013-2014 repair and rehabilitation plan.
