Gem, Mineral And Fossil Show Set For August 9 - 11

Last updated on Sunday, June 2, 2013

(BEDFORD) - After 23 years at the Monroe County Fairgrounds, the Lawrence County Rock Club is coming back home for its annual Gem, Mineral and Fossil Show.

Carol Johnson of the Times-Mail reports, the show, which attracts rock, mineral and geology enthusiasts from all over the region and more than 100 vendors, will take place Aug. 9-11 at the Lawrence County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Unfortunately, the change in location was made after ads and listings were placed in several special interest magazines and festival guides, leaving Dave Treffinger, show chairman, scrambling to get the word out about the change.

Treffinger, of Loogootee, says because of the change of location and date, some vendors will not be at the show because of scheduling conflict, but there will still be a strong outcome last year there were more than 120 vendors.

Admission is free.

The Lawrence County Rock Club started 48 years ago. Treffinger says the club has members from 13 different counties and their mission is to educate.

The rock show will be open Aug. 9, 10 a.m.-6 30 p.m., Aug. 10, 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and Aug. 11, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

The rock club meets monthly at The Company Concourse, 1402 H St., on the first Saturday of the month. Meetings include presentations on geology, rocks or minerals and time for members to bring in interesting finds for show and tell. Meetings are at 7 p.m., annual dues are $10.
