(BLOOMINGTON) - Demolition has started on three Bloomington and Indiana University buildings that emergency workers will use for search-and-rescue training next week.

A demolition company began Tuesday tearing down parts of a former post office building in downtown Bloomington, with an Indiana National Guard crew using heavy machinery to position 8-foot-long concrete tubing there for the exercise.

The Herald-Times reports a former fraternity house and computing center on the IU campus are being demolished this week in preparation for the training program.

Organizers say 200 members of various university, local and state emergency agencies will take part in the training, which is meant to simulate the aftermath of a strong tornado.

Mannequins will be inside the wrecked buildings, with searchers having to move through the debris to practice rescues.
