Crews Fixed Leak At City Pool

Last updated on Friday, June 21, 2013

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Parks Department discovered a leak in the baby pool.

The Bedford Parks Department discovered a leak in the baby pool. Parks Superintendent Mike Mitchell told the park board workers found the source and have repaired the leak.

Mitchell says attendance at the pool this year has been steady and play is picking up at Otis Park Golf Course after a slow start this spring.

The revenue at Otis is still about $54, 000 behind because of bad weather. But Mitchell says over all the parks are doing pretty good.

Saturday's Craig Bowden Celebrity Golf Tournament, a scramble co-sponsored by the city and Bedford Ford-Lincoln will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence County's endowment fund.

Bowden will direct a clinic at 10:30 a.m, followed by lunch and the scramble featuring Indiana University legends Quinn Buckner, Scott May, Calbert Cheaney, John Laskowski, and Anthony Thompson. Among other prominent personalities in attendance will be IU Hall-of-Fame broadcaster Don Fischer and coaches Bill Mallory and Jerry and Todd Yeagley, plus former St. Louis and Cincinnati third baseman Scott Rolen and color commentator Dan Dakich.

Harrell says there is no cost to watch the event.

Mitchell reported work on the soccer complex at Otis is progressing.

Currently Steve Turner and his volunteers are clearing trees and smoothing the area on the east side of the complex.

Bedford Recreation Director Gary Dorsett says the reluctantly postponed 27th-annual softball All-Nighter that was scheduled for last weekend will now be held on Aug. 2-4. There are still spots available in the women's tourney. To sign up contact the parks department.

The Josh Terry Memorial Tournament is slated for July 13 and 14, and Murray Forest Park will be the site of a men's Class D Men's State Tournament July 19 and 20.
