Bloomington Works To Preserve 19 Century Records

Last updated on Monday, June 17, 2013

(BLOOMINGTON) - The Monroe County Public Library is working with the city of Bloomington Clerk’s Office and the Monroe County History Center to digitally photograph the four oldest books of county commissioner records, Bloomington City Council minutes and ordinances.

City directories and the library's own 19th century archives will also be preserved in digital form. The digital images of most of the aging documents being photographed will be posted online throughout 2014.

County library employee Christine Friesel tells The Herald-Times that once the project is done the library hopes many people ready the documents online to discover "a new narrative of Monroe County."
