Bedford Woman Admits Breaking Into Sister's Home

Last updated on Friday, June 7, 2013

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford woman was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to theft.

51-year-old Annita Cox was sentenced Tuesday in Lawrence Superior Court I by Judge Michael Robbins for taking items from her sister's home in the 1700 block of M Street.

Cox was arrested on Jan. 9 on charges of burglary, theft, criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance.

According to a probable cause affidavit Cox is accused of breaking a window at her sister's house, entering and then stealing items.

While police were investigating the scene, they found blood on the floor and on a piece of the broken glass. The blood was submitted for DNA testing at the Indiana State Police lab.

Analysis showed the blood collected from the scene was not that of the homeowner or her mother, but was that of a relative. After Cox submitted a mouth swab, police determined the blood was hers.

Cox admitted she had broke into the home and stole several items.

Cox told police she had secretly made a key to Martin's home and was using the key to get into the house when she accidentally broke the window and was cut.
