Bedford Sex Offender Jailed After Spotted With Two Young Girls

Last updated on Sunday, June 9, 2013

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford sex offender was put back in jail after Oolitic police officers spotted him walking with two young girls.

Police arrested 26-year-old Marshall R. Vires, 1308 Oak St., on a warrant for parole violation.

According to Bedford Police Department Chief Dennis Parsley, two Oolitic police officers were patrolling on Newton Street when they spottted Vires, with two girls, who appeared to be under age.

One of those officers was a state parole officer and recognized Vires as a registered sex offender. That officer contacted Bedford Police officers who then responded to the scene.

Vires told police he didn't know the girls. But the girls told police a different story and that Vires had contacted them to meet him.

Police found text messages that Vires had sent the girls, who were both under age.

That's when another state parole officer was contacted, and that officer contacted the parole board and the parole board issued a warrant to have Vires arrested.

Officers then went to his home on Oak Street and placed Vires under arrest.

Vires was arrested in 2005 for sexual misconduct with a 14-year-old girl in Monroe County. While free on bond for that incident, he went into the bedroom of a 13-year-old girl in Monroe County where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.

In 2006, he was sentenced to serve six years in prison after pleading guilty to the two sex-related charges in Monroe County.

Vires pleaded guilty to felony charges of sexual deviate conduct and sexual misconduct with a minor.

He was registered as a sex offender on Nov. 18, 2008. The Sex Offender Registry lists him as a "sexually violent predator."
