(MITCHELL) - Mitchell police say unsafe speed and the consumption of alcohol contributed to a crash that injured the driver of a small pickup truck early Thursday morning.
Jayce P. Hughes, 27, Mitchell, suffered a head injury and was taken by Rural/Metro ambulance to the hospital following the crash.
According to the police report, filed by Mitchell Police Officer Matt England, Hughes said he was driving west on Hancock Avenue near Eighth Street when he lost control of the 1993 Chevrolet truck. The truck ran off the road, hitting a utility pole. The truck sustained significant damage to the passenger side and bed, the report noted.
The wreck happened at 12:41 a.m.
Hughes told police officers that Cody Rayhill of 1125 Palestine Road was a front-seat passenger, but ran from the accident scene because he was wanted on a warrant, according to the report. Rayhill has not been arrested as of this morning.
Hughes was blood-tested for both alcohol and drug consumption. The results of those tests are pending, but the accident report contributes the cause of the accident to both alcoholic beverages and unsafe speed, citing speed as the primary cause.
