Paoli Students Place At Super Mileage Challenge

Last updated on Wednesday, May 8, 2013

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Paoli High School teacher Jason Goodman and his students participated in the statewide Super Mileage Challenge.

The event took place at Lucas Oil Raceway Park in Indianapolis and involved 39 cars -- two of which belonged to Paoli students -- competing for the best fuel efficiency.

Students, working under Goodman's guidance, design and build their own cars. In the stock class, where no modifications can be made to a car's 3.5 hp Briggs & Stratton engine that is stock, the students placed sixth out of 12th. The car's average fuel efficiency was 227.61 miles per gallon.

A second car, entered in the unlimited class, which allows modifications to the Briggs & Stratton engine, placed fifth out of 17 with an average fuel efficiency of 433.59 mpg.

PHS students participating in the event were Kole Kibbler, Landon Beaty, A.J. Fulkerson, Jacob Tuell, Ben Bosley, Evan Marshall and Devin Durbin.

The Super Mileage Challenge is sponsored by the Indiana Mathematics, Science and Technology Education Alliance.
