Last updated on Monday, May 20, 2013

(OOLITIC) - An Oolitic man was killed when he crashed his moped Friday afternoon.

According to Lawrence County Coroner Rob Herr, 37-year-old Brad C. Ryan, died from a severe head injury he suffered in the crash. Herr also says Ryan had a severe leg injury.

According to a Lawrence County police report, Ryan was driving a 2010 V.I.P. moped west on East Oolitic Road, and was rounding a curve about 400 feet west of Barlow Drive when he crashed.

A witness who was in a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction told police he saw Ryan coming around the curve too fast.

Ryan's moped went off the north side of the road, hit the guardrail and flipped.

The Bedford Fire Department, Shawswick Township Volunteer Fire Department, Oolitic Police Department and an Indiana University Hospital Bedford ambulance crew were all sent to the scene.

A helicopter ambulance also was called, the police log states, but the crew was later told to disregard.
