More Than 60 Volunteers Turn Out For Day Of Caring

Last updated on Monday, May 13, 2013

(BEDFORD) - More than 60 volunteers participated in the 17th annual Day of Caring Saturday.

The event was sponsored by United Way of South Central Indiana.

Lorri Hamer, United Way Executive Director says the turn out was one of the largest.

Volunteers pitched in to help non-profit agencies complete tasks they often do not have time or people power to finish.

Duties ranged from painting the American Red Cross office to landscaping outside the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence County. They also worked at Becky's Place, a shelter for women and children.

Hamer says, the agency leaders and adult volunteers had to do a lot of planning, but much of Saturday's work fell to the dozens of teenagers who volunteered.
