More Than 1,000 Archers Competed At Fairgrounds

(BEDFORD) - More than 1,000 turn out for Triple Crown event in Lawrence Co. More than 1,000 archers participated in the the first leg of the Triple Crown National Championship Series, held by the International Bowhunters Organization.

Hundreds of people flocked to the Lawrence County 4-H Fairgrounds Friday, Saturday and Sunday for one of the biggest national shoots.

Bowhunters marched through the muddy, woody terrain in the 70-degree, humid weather, shooting at new, self-healing, animal-replica targets.

Harold Gregory, chairman of the White River Bowhunters Club, the largest turnout Bedford's seen for the amateur shoot.

Their scorecards need to be turned in by 1 p.m. Sunday and they were presented with their awards at the Expo Hall.

Archers will now move on to Pennsylvania for the second leg of the competition, then to Ohio for the third. The top 20 can qualify for the world championship which will also be held in Pennsylvania.
