Monroe County Ranked 4th In State For Meth Lab Seizures

(MONROE CO.) - State data shows Monroe County ranked No. 4 in the state for meth lab seizures in 2012.

Investigators with the Indiana State Police Meth Suppression Section say meth lab seizures are on the rise.

Statistics show over the past five years, an average 20 percent increase in the number of labs was found from year to year.

So far this year, 435 labs have been seized statewide., 60 of those in Monroe County.

"There's a lot of factors that go into that," said Senior Trooper Tom Egler who is with the Meth Suppression Section. "How addictive meth is, the aggressive (policing) ... if the demand is there, the number of labs goes up."

Police found 16 meth labs in Lawrence County; 14 in Brown County; 28 in Jackson County; 23 in Greene County; 11 in Martin County; 13 in Orange County; 36 in Washington County.

Detectives in Bartholomew County say drugs played a role in Saturday's Waynesville quadruple homicide .

Investigators found meth inside the home where the victims were murdered. The sheriff's department has not released any more information.

Trooper Egler is says a gram of meth has a street value of around $100.
