Man Pleads Not Guilty In Hit-And-Run Death

Last updated on Wednesday, May 8, 2013

(COLUMBUS) - 24-year-old Jacob Tolbert, of Elizabethtown, entered a not guilty plea in the April 28 hit-and-run death of a Vallonia man.

His attorney says Tolbert is a mild-mannered man, recovering from a broken vertebrae and was just trying to avoid any further physical confrontation with a fellow patron at the Caddies Pub in Columbus when the accident happened.

Tolbert is charged with reckless homicide, leaving the scene of an accident causing death and possession of marijuana.

Tolbert was arrested Sunday in connection with the death of Thomas L. "Tommy" Brazzell, 27, of Vallonia, and is being held on a $50,000 bond.

Police say Brazzell died early Sunday morning when he was struck by Tolbert's pickup outside Caddies Pub, 2761 Central Ave in Columbus.
