Man Arrested After Leaving Toddler At Motel

Last updated on Tuesday, May 28, 2013

(WASHINGTON) - A Knox County man was arrested on numerous charges after a child was reported left alone at a Washington motel.

Around 8 p.m. Thursday, Washington Police officers responded to a report of a 3 year old child being left alone in a room at the Budget Inn in Washington.

Employees at the motel told the officers that the mother of the child, 31 year old Mary Heather Ray, of Laramie, Wyoming, had been sent to the motel by St. Vincent de Paul Church.

A few minutes later, Ray called the WPD and reported friends had heard her name on a scanner. She told police that she had left her 3 year old son in the care of her 21 year old nephew, Ethan Stone of Bicknell.

At 8:38 p.m. Washington Dispatch received a call from Southview Trailer Court reporting a man matching Stone's description was running through the trailer park.

Stone was located and arrested on a charge of neglect of a dependent. Police say he was also wanted in Pike County on a warrant for possession of meth, possession of paraphernalia, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Stone was arrested and taken to the Daviess County Security Center.
