(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man has been charged with reckless homicide after he admittedly strangled a woman while they were having sex.
48-year-old Richard Wisniewski was arrested after the body of a 55-year-old woman was found in her ransacked apartment in he 2600 block of North Walnut Street on May 17.
On May 21, Wisniewski and his attorney told police that on the morning of May 17 he had engaged in consensual sex with his roommate.
Wisniewski told police he had his hands around the woman's neck and that she lost consciousness and did not wake up.
Wisniewski told police he attempted to revive the woman but that failed and that is when he panic and fled the apartment.
He was later arrested after police received a call from the woman's daughter at 11 p.m. on May 17 after she discovered her mother's body.
According to detectives the woman's daughter had called her mother just after 6 p.m. and was told by Wisniewski that her mother didn't feel well and that he would have her call her back.
When her mother didn't phone, she and her husband went to the apartment and found her mother dead on the bedroom floor and the apartment ransacked and Wisniewski gone.
Police searched the area and found him standing in a tree line north of the apartments.
While detectives were searching for Wisniewski, they received a call reporting that someone attempted to use a counterfeit $100 bill at the Speedway gas station. The caller told police it was Wisniewski.
Police arrested Wisniewski on a warrant for theft out of Florida and attempting to use a counterfeit bill.
According to an autopsy report, the woman died of strangulation.
The case is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Bloomington Police Department.
