Lawrence County To Host Community Conversation

Last updated on Monday, May 6, 2013

(UNDATED) - Four Indiana communities have been selected to host community conversations that will help them better understand their past and prepare for Indiana’s Bicentennial in 2016.

The Bowen Center for Public Affairs at Ball State University and Indiana Humanities this week selected Evansville, LaPorte and Lawrence and Hamilton counties for the program that evaluates possible solutions for community challenges and provides access to resources, technology, and expertise.

In Evansville, for example, a University of Southern Indiana program will examine the city's history and work with groups to revitalize center city neighborhoods. The Hamilton County Convention and Visitors Bureau will work on preserving the county's heritage and presenting it in the future.

In Hamilton County, The Hamilton County Convention and Visitors Bureau seeks to lead a meaningful cross-county conversation about how Hamilton County's heritage can be preserved and presented for the future.

In La Porte, The La Porte Historic Preservation Commission will use this opportunity to discuss best practices for historic towns to revitalize in the 21st century.

In Lawrence County, The Lawrence County Economic Growth Council will lead a conversation to celebrate its past and present and identify its path to the future.
