(UNDATED) - There are more than 200,000 registered motorcyclists in Indiana.
The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute says the number of motorcycle road fatalities is on the rise while other vehicle fatalities are dropping.
That's why Traffic Safety Director Ryan Klitzsch says they're kicking off another Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month.
Indiana doesn't have a helmet law.
However, Klitzsch says helmets can make a difference.
He says motorcycles are harder to see than other vehicles.
Gov. Mike Pence has proclaimed May "Motorcycle Awareness and Safety" month.
ABATE of Indiana Executive Director Jay Jackson says learning how to ride properly can prevent accidents.
ABATE offers a 15-hour class with a motorcycle provided. Jackson says once motorcyclists are on the road, they should always ride by the "see and be seen" rule.
In 2009, Indiana motorcyclists were involved in 3,276 collisions, resulting in 113 fatalities (motorcycles and mopeds are grouped together).
