Former Monroe County Middle School Food Service Employee Wanted For Theft

Last updated on Tuesday, May 21, 2013

(BEDFORD) - A former Monroe County middle school food service employee is wanted by the authorities after they said she stole taxpayer money.

On Monday, the State Board of Accounts released an audit that demanded Beth Ann Deckard repay $8,117.65 for malfeasance, as well as $2,476.70 in additional audit costs incurred by the state.

Deckard was a food service employee responsible for making deposits at Jackson Creek Middle School Food Service.

"A total of 80 deposits were found that were less than the amount posted to the students' accounts," the audit read.

The Monroe County Community School Corporation terminated Deckard and filed a report with the county prosecutor, who filed a theft charge against Deckard.

"She fled," said Monroe County Deputy Prosecutor Bob Miller. "She was never taken into custody and is still wanted on an active warrant. They normally turn up, eventually."

The audit report has also been forward to the Indiana Attorney General's Office, which can seek to recoup the funds allegedly stolen by Deckard.
