Former Linton Man Found Guilty Of Child Molestation

Last updated on Sunday, May 5, 2013

(TERRE HAUTE) - A Vigo County Superior Court jury took less than 60 minutes to deliberate before finding a former Linton man guilty of one count of child molesting Wednesday in Terre Haute.

Nick Schneider, of the Greene County Daily World reports, sentencing for 35-year-old Joshua Hall, of Terre Haute, will be at 1:30 p.m. on June 3.

Conviction of a class 'A felony' carries a state presumptive penalty of a fixed term between 20 and 50 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.00.

Testimony was heard in the trial conducted in Vigo Superior Court 5 on Tuesday. The jurors returned Wednesday morning to hear closing arguments and receive final instructions before retiring to the jury room.

The guilty verdict to the class A felony charge was returned before 11 a.m., according to a Superior Court reporter.

Hall was arrested last May by the Terre Haute Police Department.

The former correctional officer at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility at Carlisle was found guilty of performing various sex acts with a 6-year-old girl on Aug. 15, 2011, according to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court.

Hall, a 1995 graduate of Linton-Stockton High School who was a standout on the basketball court, remains incarcerated in the Vigo County Jail.

Hall worked at the Sullivan County prison facility from January 2008 to February 2011, when he was dismissed, pending the filing of criminal charges and was deemed not eligible for rehire, according to Rich Larsen, public information officer at WVCF.

Hall remains detained at the Vigo County Jail on a $75,000 cash only bond.
