(SALEM) - The Indiana Department of Transportation has agreed to install flashing lights on top of stop signs at the intersection of the new bypass and State Road 60.
Salem Mayor David Bower received an e-mail from Tony McClellan following up on his recent visit with Salem officials.
McClellan said in response to the city's concerns about people running the stop signs, the state is planning to add solar flashers to the stop signs. He said the work should be completed within 60 days.
McClellan also mentioned other steps the state has taken to alert drivers to that intersection, including putting up larger stop signs, adding flags to the signs and installing rumble strips.
He also provided an update on a project that involves widening State Road 56 east of its intersection with State Road 135, on the north side of the city. According to McClellan, the project is to be let for bids in July of next year.
