Energy Economic Specialist Predicts Gas Prices

Last updated on Thursday, May 23, 2013

(UNDATED) - A Purdue University Energy Economics Specialist Wally Tyner says he expects summer gasoline prices to be lower than last year.

He predicts prices in the Midwest between $3.50 to $3.90 a gallon, in the south and southeast between $3.15 to $3.55. He doesn't expect prices over $4 expect on the West Coast.

Tyner says greater fuel efficiency and increased production by some counties should result in lower crude oil prices. But he cautions that refinery outages and world events are wild cards that could temporarily push gas prices higher.
