Wildflower Hike April 20 At River Bend Farm

Last updated on Wednesday, April 3, 2013

(BEDFORD) - Plans have been finalized for the annual White River RC&D Wildflower
Hike on April 20th.

The popular event will return to the River Bend Farm owned by Mike and Nancy
Scherschel. The wildflower hike will be led by Kay Yatskievych, author of `Field Guide to Indiana Wildflowers'.

As a result of overwhelming interest and having to turn people away in past years, this year Yatskievych will lead two hike sessions. Both identical sessions will be conducted on the River Bend Farm in western Lawrence County.

This farm was the site of the 2007 Wildflower hike and was so popular we've brought it back. In 2007 Yatskievych recorded 69 wildflower species on the farm, 33 species were in full bloom.

A maximum of 20 people are accepted for each session and they fill up fast. A modest $10 fee is charged. Students are free.

The hikes are co-sponsored by Sycamore Land Trust and co-led by Carroll Ritter, who serves as Environmental Education Specialist for Sycamore Land Trust. The guided morning hike will run from 10:30 until noon and the afternoon hike will be from 1:30 pm until 3 pm. At lunch, participants are encouraged to pack a lunch and a blanket and join us for a picnic. Drinks will be provided.

For reservations or further information email forestryRCD@gmail.com or call (812) 653-4518. The Scherschels and the White River RC&D Committee look forward to having you join us for another great hike.
