(WASHINGTON) - Midwest Engineers of Loogootee presented the Washington City Council with a report on what Washington needs to do to maintain and improve its water delivery system.
The system is being looked at as the city continues to grow and has approved annexing several areas for economic growth.
David Dahl with Midwest Engineers presented a 3 phase plan that would take 10 to 12 years. Plans include water storage, transmission and drilling.
Mayor Joe Wellman says there are two immediate goals in Phase 1 they will be looking at improving water storage for fire protection on the east side of town and work on the more than 100 year old East Van Trees main.
They hope to start work on those issues soon.
Phase 2 would take place in five years and includes replacing and raising the now 65 year old tank near the high school, verifying new well fields, constructing a supply loop to the industrial park, and replacing small 4" mains throughout the city, and installing a new well main.
Phase III would take place in ten years and include developing new well fields and installing a booster station for the south supply loop.
