Washington Car Dealer Joins Forces With Band To Raise Funds

Last updated on Saturday, April 6, 2013

(WASHINGTON) - Bill Dobson Ford and the Washington High School band, the Golden Pride, are joining forces to raise funds on today from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lindsay Owens of the Washington Times Herald reports that through the Ford Motor Company Drive 4 UR School program, $20 will be donated to the high school band program for each new Ford vehicle that is taken for a test drive at Bill Dobson Ford Saturday.

The money raised will be used to purchase new instruments and music as well as to cover travel expenses and operating costs for students involved in the music program.

"Here at Bill Dobson Ford, we are a local, family owned business that enjoys giving back to our community," said Brent Dobson.

Up to $6,000 will be donated by Ford during the one day event. Those interested in participating will have the opportunity to test drive many of the vehicles in the Ford line-up including the Ford Fusion, Focus and the C-MAX, an electric car.

"If you have not checked out Ford's new line up and technology, come on out, test drive one and earn the band $20 per test drive," said Dobson.

To be eligible for the test drive, participates must be 18 or older and have a valid driver's license. Test drives will be limited to one per household and will last approximately seven to 10 minutes.

The Drive 4 UR School program began in 2007 and has generated more than $16 million in donations for high schools across the United States. With school budget cuts, many programs such as music, art and sporting activities are being dropped. The Drive 4 UR School program aims to raise money to keep these programs and others available for students in local extracurricular communities.

"I think it's a great opportunity for the band to earn some funds. I'd like to thank Bill Dobson Ford and the community for helping us out," said Golden Pride band director Doug Sydow. "We are looking for a good turn out on Saturday." Bill Dobson Ford is located at 15 S. Meridian St.
