(LINTON) - A Jasonville man attempting to flee from law enforcement officers who were on his tail Wednesday night was finally brought to a halt after he ran over stop sticks and his tires blew.

Anna Rochelle of the Greene Daily World reports that police said he did keep going longer than expected -- driving on just the rims of his wheels.

Austin J. Hollifield, 21, was a suspect in a drug investigation and on Wednesday evening, officers conducted an undercover drug buy from Hollifield.

The lead investigating officer, Det. Sgt. Josh Goodman of the Linton Police Department, reported that shortly after the transaction took place, officers attempted to stop Hollifield but he took off and fled the area in a white Mazda passenger car.

While some officers were in pursuit, other officers responded from the north and deployed stop sticks in Hollifield's path. He hit them and they deflated his tires.

Goodman said Hollifield continued to flee from officers on county roads for several miles at a low rate of speed, driving on the rims, until the vehicle eventually stopped, south of Jasonville.

Hollifield was taken into custody and transported to the Greene County Jail.

Officers assisting in the investigation and pursuit came from the Linton Police Department, Jasonville Police Department, Worthington Police Department, Clay County Sheriff's Department and the Indiana State Police.

Hollifield was booked into jail on preliminary charges of dealing in a Schedule II controlled substance as a class B felony, dealing in a Schedule IV controlled substance as a class C felony, and resisting law enforcement -- fleeing in a vehicle as a class D felony.

He was being held without bond pending formal charges and an initial hearing.
