Last updated on Wednesday, April 3, 2013

(BEDFORD) - Bedford Federal Savings is now the site of a Victorian playhouse. The home was built by employees and on display in the parking lot at the John Williams Boulevard branch.

The home will be on display for three weeks. The playhouse is one of eight that will be auctioned off to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County on April 20 at a fundraiser dinner.

Bed Fed sponsored the playhouse project and employees helped with construction and painting. David Gratzer installed the flooring and Shelley Kenworthy painted the inside a cheery yellow with stripes.

The other teams building playhouses are Pritchett Brothers Inc., Lineal Contracting, Tri-County Builders, Spring Mill FOP, Boys & Girls Club, Torch Club, Bedford Fire Department and UAW/IBEW/GM.

The playhouse built by the Torch Club, a leadership club of older Boys & Girls Club members, will be raffled off, while the others will be auctioned off.

Doug Kellams of Tri-County Builders says his company just completed its entry. A superhero-inspired playhouse with the Batman logo. It's parked at Eastgate on 16th Street. Kellams' wife Debbie and daughter Brittany McClain designed the house.

The rest of the playhouses should be on display this week. A log cabin playhouse built by Lineal Contracting is on display at its office on Mitchell Road. The UAW/IBEW/GM house will be at Hubler Chevrolet.

The week before the auction, all the playhouses will be displayed near the Boys and Girls Club.

Tickets for the April 20 Dinner and Dream Playhouse Auction are $25 per person or $200 for a table of eight. The dinner and auction is from 6-9 p.m. at the Limestone building on 19th Street.
