(BEDFORD) - Last year John Williams was the recipient of a toast.

This year he will toast, Charles Austin "Pete" Pritchett who will be the focal point of the Bedford Rotary Club's second annual community toast and banquet, slated for Saturday at 6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center.

Bob Bridge of the Times-Mail reports that Williams, who will serve as emcee, was the colorful commentator for WBIW while Pritchett was coaching the Stars. Former Bedford North Lawrence athletic director Mike Short and Kelly Fitzgerald Cobb, an All-Star guard on BNL's 1983 championship team, are among those assigned to pay tribute to Pritchett.

A 2007 inductee into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, Pritchett guided the Lady Stars to the 1983 state championship in his first season as head coach. BNL also was runner-up in 1990, won the title in 1991, and was runner-up again in 1992.

During Pritchett's 12-year reign at BNL the Lady Stars were 271-25, with 10 of those losses coming in the state tourney. The Stars captured 11 consecutive Hoosier Hills Conference championships and reeled off an 88-game regular-season winning streak during those dynasty years.

Pritchett won 92 percent of his games while directing the Lady Stars and his program generated three mental attitude award winners. Shannon Cummings claimed the coveted state medal in 1990. Carrie Mount won it in 1991, and Marla Inman made it an unprecedented three-peat for BNL in 1992.

Tickets can be purchased at Copy Trolley, the Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce, Group One, or from any member of the Bedford Rotary Club. They are $18 in advance and $20 at the door. Tables of eight are available. Proceeds go toward the Rotary's John Williams Scholarship fund.
